Application Confirmation

Thank you.

Your application has successfully been submitted. Please call the NALTC office at 931-582-4161 in 3-5 days to check on the status of your application.

Please read the following information about our enrollment process.

Approximate Enrollment Timeline

  • 6-9 months prior to semester beginning: Applications are accepted.
  • 3 months prior: Applicants are enrolled.
  • 90 days prior: Enrolled students can begin applying for loans with UECU or Sallie Mae.
  • 45 days prior: Schedule your DOT physical and get your CDL permit. *See additional CDL info near the end of this letter
  • 30 days prior: All documentation and final tuition payment due.
  • 7-10 days prior: Landlords will contact students using housing with move-in date/time.*
  • 7 days prior: NALTC will contact students with orientation date/time (for students who did not attend a tour).
  • 3-4 days prior: Housing students move in and pay the $2,500 housing balance directly to the landlords.**

*Please note that student housing is off campus. McEwen is a small town without public transportation, so students need their own vehicles to get them to and from school.

**Total cost of housing is $3000. You have already paid a $500 deposit; the remaining payment for housing is $2,500 due when you move in.

How we enroll students:

Applicants are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. After you apply, please call the school in 3-5 business days to check the status of your application.

NEXT STEPS:

  1. Securing your final tuition payment.

Don’t wait until the last minute! Many enrolled students realize they waited until it was too late to apply for scholarships, financing, or military benefits* and forfeit their spot because they couldn’t come up with the money in time. Tuition balance and documents are due 30 days before the semester begins.

Once enrolled, you will receive an invoice with your tuition balance. Most funding can be secured 90 days before the semester begins. Visit the Funding page on our website to discover what options you might have for assistance. Because we are state accredited and privately owned, we do not have a federal school code and cannot accept FAFSA or other federal funding.

*If you are using military benefits, this process requires additional documents. Please visit https://naltc.com/veterans-using-va-benefits/ for more information, or call the NALTC office at 931-582-4161 to speak with the School Certifying Official.

  1. Sending in all required documentation.

Required Documents:

  1. Color photo of front and back of Driver’s License
  2. Copy of Birth certificate
  3. Copy of Social Security card
  4. Front and back of medical insurance card
  5. Medical DOT certificate* (and accompanying forms, usually 4-5 pages; must be completed by a certified DOT examiner.
  6. NALTC Medical release form downloadable here. (Your DOT examiner can complete this during your DOT physical, but any doctor can sign this one.)
  7. Signed official High School transcript or proof of GED. This must be sent directly from the school.

*You must have your DOT certificate before you can get your CDL permit. Even though a copy of your DOT certificate is due before school begins, you must turn in the original DOT certificate to the office with your permit and driver’s license in order to start the CDL program. As a CDL driver, you will be required to keep your DOT certificate in your wallet at all times.

  1. Getting your CDL permit.

If you will be a part of the CDL program, we highly advise that you get your permit in your home state before the semester begins. Preparing for the CDL permit test is not a part of our program or curriculum. In certain circumstances, students can transfer residency to TN and get a TN CDL permit, but this process takes time and students who wait until later in the semester to get their permit risk delayed testing, sometimes even after graduation.

You can study for your permit test using your state's CDL manual. CDL manuals are online on each state's Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) website. You can also find an electronic copy here.

Additional Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Info

If you are from the following states and under 21 years old (or any age and from California), you will NOT get your DOT physical in your home state. We will connect you with our local certified DOT examiner in TN once you arrive at school. We will also help you through the process of establishing TN residency and taking the permit test in TN.

California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Arkansas

If you are from Kentucky and are under 21 years old, you cannot CDL test in TN. We can provide you with the contact info of a CDL school in KY.

How to withdraw/get a refund:

If your plans change and you decide to withdraw your enrollment or drop from a wait list, the enrolled student (not a family member) should notify the NALTC office by phone or email. A full refund of the housing and tool deposits will be processed if you drop at least 30 days before the semester begins. The application fee is non-refundable. It generally takes 4 weeks for refund checks to process. Please see our refund policy for further information.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to call or email. We’re here to help you through the process!
